Area phone provider to add 130 jobs
MANKATO, Minn. — Wireless telephone provider Alltel Corp. says it will add 130 jobs to the company’s office in Mankato.
The jobs will be in the customer service department’s call center, where employees field questions about customer’s bills, handle service issues and offer phone feature support.
Alltel is in the process of being acquired by Verizon Wireless in a $28 billion deal that would create the nation’s largest wireless carrier. However, Alltel says the expansion in Mankato is not related to the merger but is because of added customers.
Greater Mankato Growth CEO Jonathan Zierdt says the job increase is welcome news at a time when many companies are cutting back.
Alltel says it plans to have the 130 jobs filled by Jan. 1.
