From staff reports
The three southeastern Minnesota teams that reached the semifinals of the state high school football tournament at the Metrodome provide a little of everything. They are:
The surprise: Lourdes was coming off a two-win season and last appeared at the state tournament in 1983. The Eagles beat Blue Earth 36-29 in a Class AAA quarterfinal game Saturday. Lourdes (10-2) will play defending champion Becker (11-1) at 3:15 p.m. Friday.
Getting defensive: Rushford-Peterson used dominating defense to beat defending state champion Springfield 10-6 Saturday in Class A, allowing zero passing yards and recovering five fumbles. The Trojans were state champions in 2004. Rushford-Peterson (11-1) plays Wabasso (10-2) at 10:15 a.m. Friday.
Unbeaten: Triton kept its record perfect this season by beating St. Croix Lutheran 40-14 Friday in Class AA. The Cobras, who won the state title in 2000, hadn’t trailed at halftime all season until Friday, when they were down 14-13. Triton (11-0) plays Hawley (10-2) at 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
