Arlette S. Brekke -- Rochester

ROCHESTER -- The funeral for Arlette S. Brekke will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Chris Brekke officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Brekke, 88, of Rochester, former owner of Brekke Fireplace Shoppe, died Friday (Oct. 15, 2004) at Sunrise Cottages in Rochester.

Arlette Sylvia Erickson was born Oct. 21, 1915, in Skyberg, Dodge County. She graduated from Kenyon High School and worked as a secretary for an attorney. On Sept. 12, 1940, she married Aldon "Al" Brekke at Hegre Lutheran Church in Skyberg. The couple moved to Rochester in 1957 and founded Brekke Home Improvement Company, which later became Brekke Fireplace Shoppe. The couple retired and lived in Florida and Arizona before moving back to Rochester in 1995. Mr. Brekke died July 31, 1995. Mrs. Brekke had lived at Sunrise Cottages since June 2003. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, was volunteer coordinator for Meals on Wheels, and was a volunteer at the state hospital. She enjoyed her lake home and garden.

Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" (Larry) Richardson, and Vicki "Vic" (Bradd) Nelson, both of Rochester; four grandchildren; and two brothers, Art Erickson of Faribault, Minn., and Roland (Darlyne) Erickson of Rockford, Ill. Two brothers preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Rochester Chapel, and an hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
