AUSTIN — The Mass of Christian Burial for Arthur E. Dubke will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, with the Rev. Joe Fogal officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin, with American Legion Post 91 providing military honors.
Arthur Edward Dubke, 80, of Austin, died Friday (Nov. 14, 2008) at his home.
He was born July 30, 1928, in Austin. He grew up in Austin and graduated from St. Augustine Catholic High School in 1946. He was a Mass server during his school years and also in the Army. A World War II veteran, he served with the 11th Airborne Division and spent a year in Japan. There he earned his Paratrooper Wings and Glider Wings. He was a member of the American Legion, the DAV, and the 187th Regimental Combat Team.
On May 28, 1949, he married Maxine "Mickey" Hanson at St. Augustine Catholic Church. They made their home in Austin, where Mr. Dubke’s father taught him the bakery business. In 1993 he retired from Sterling Bank. He was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge and the Austin Noon Lions Club, and was an associate member of the Mesa (Ariz.) Host Lions Club, where he had wintered since 2002. With the Lions he received many awards, including the Melvin Jones Fellowship, the Helen Keller Sight Award, Hearing Research Fellowship, Lions Club International Foundation, Lion of the Year, and five International President’s Certificates of Appreciation. Mr. Dubke was a member of the NRA and was a Tennessee Squire of Moore County, Tenn.; was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church; was a caregiver for several older adults and delivered Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet (Bruce) Tiegen of Bemidji, Minn., and Joan (Daniel) Gunderson of Madison, Wis.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on July 12, 2001; his parents, Arthur and Adella (Fink) Dubke; and three infant children, Edward, JoAnn and James.
