Arthur F. Wandrey — Plainview

PLAINVIEW — The funeral for Arthur F. Wandrey will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, with the Rev. Terrill Bramstedt officiating. Burial will be in Elgin Cemetery.

Mr. Wandrey, 89, died Wednesday (April 15, 2009) at St. Isidore Health Center of Greenwood Prairie in Plainview. He had been a resident of the health center since August 2008.

He was born Oct. 20, 1919, in Elgin Township, Wabasha County, to Fred and Anna (Polikowsky) Wandrey. He attended Giem Country School and Elgin Parochial School. Mr. Wandrey farmed north of Elgin all his life, then retired in 1985 and moved to Plainview. He also worked in sales for McNess Feed for many years.

On Jan. 7, 1941, he married Loretta Hoffman in Potsdam. She died in 1983. He married LaVone Irish in May 1989; she died that same year. He then had a special friend, Rachel Binder, who also preceded him in death.

A member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, he had served on the church council. He also served on the Giem Country School and enjoyed woodworking, country music, scooter rides, playing the guitar, and spending time with his dog, Snoopy.

Mr. Wandrey is survived by two daughters, Phyllis (Ralph) Stelling of Millville and Diane (George) Christenson of Kellogg; two sons, Lawrence of Cloquet, Minn., and Lyle (Eileen) of Elgin; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wives and special friend, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel Tetzlaff and Adeline Haack.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church in Elgin. There will be a Prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
