A’s rally past Redhawks; Pats sweep

The Rochester A’s rallied for four unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat the Rochester Redhawks, 7-4, in an intra-city American Legion baseball game at Mayo High School on Thursday.

Jordan Kangas was the winning pitcher, and also went

2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs.

The Redhawks led 4-2 after five innings, thanks to solo home runs by Travis Nordhus and Charlie Hinsch.


"(The A’s) had four unearned runs in the seventh," Redhawks coach Tom Senne said. "We just didn’t make the plays we needed to make."

Kelby Halling suffered the loss for the Redhawks (2-1).

Pats sweep doubleheader

The Rochester Patriots received two strong pitching performances and swept a doubleheader against the Rochester Eagles at John Adams Middle School on Thursday, 5-1 and 6-3.

Andrew Roble threw a good 51⁄3 innings in the opener, recording five strikeouts as the Eagles managed just four hits.

The Patriots broke it open in the fifth when they scored four times. Derek Hovick led the Patriots at the plate, going 3-for-4. Hovick, Roble and Ben Van Vooren each had RBI hits in the big inning.

Chris Griffin went 2-for-3 for the Eagles in the opener. He suffered the pitching loss in the second game, as the Patriots broke open a close game again with two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Robin Heilskov picked up the win, as Patriots coach Terry Heiderscheit said Heilskov threw well in his first outing of the season.
