• Frueh began his high school season Wednesday by beating Lourdes’ Ben Kopecky 6-2, 6-1 in a matchup of No. 1 singles players. His team was also a winner, beating Lourdes 6-1.
Frueh reached the state individual tennis tournament a year ago, and lost in the quarterfinals of the Class AA meet. Kopecky won the state Class A title.
• Frueh is bigger and strong than a year ago, having grown three inches and gained 15 pounds.
• Frueh is also working on his on-court demeanor. The sophomore was know for occasionally losing his cool on the court in past seasons. On Wednesday, he was full of composure.
