CHATFIELD -- The funeral for Audrey Jean Carothers will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, with the Rev. John Kester officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Pleasant Grove.
Miss Carothers, 79, of Rochester, a retired teacher, died Thursday (April 4, 2002) at Rochester Methodist Hospital after a long illness. She had been hospitalized three weeks.
She was born Feb. 17, 1923, in Chatfield and graduated from Chatfield High School in 1941. In 1945 she graduated from Winona State Teachers College and in 1965 received a master's degree from Mankato State University. She taught in Montgomery, Minn., for a year and then at Wells (Minn.) High School until her retirement in 1982. She taught health, physical education, math and driver's education, and was instrumental in starting girls' interscholastic track in Wells. During retirement she taught defensive driving for AARP. She continued to live in Wells until moving to Rochester last fall.
Survivors include a sister, Colleen (Marvin) Foss of Chatfield. Two brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
