AUSTIN EDITION -- Animals to be blessed

Who says dogs can't go to heaven? Or church, for that matter?

On Sunday, clergy from Austin area churches and pet owners will gather for a blessing of the animals on the west lawn at St. Mark's Lutheran Home, 400 15th Ave. S.W.

The Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea, pastor at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle and a Mower County Humane Society member, said the service will start at 1:30 p.m. Pet owners are invited to bring their furry and not-so-furry family members for a blessing.

"Any kind of critter is welcome," Finley-Shea said.

All area clergy are invited to attend as well.

The blessing of the animals is part of the Festival of St. Francis of Assisi.
