AUSTIN EDITION - Austin boy, 2, falls into washing machine, injured

A 2-year-old Austin boy suffered head, back and arm injuries after falling into a washing machine that was agitating at the time, said Police Chief Paul Philipp.

The boy had been sitting on the dryer and fell into the washer while his mother was loading it, Philipp said. The mother shut off the machine and was unable to remove the toddler. Using the phone in the wash room, tthe woman called for help while holding the boy's head above water, said Philipp.

An officer responded, but was unable to remove the boy. Gold Cross Ambulance personnel also attempted to remove the child.

Austin Fire Department also responded and a firefighter was able to disassemble the machine enough to lift the crying boy out of the water.

Philipp said he believes the child was treated and released from Austin Medical Center.
