AUSTIN EDITION - Austin girls win triangular

FARIBAULT -- Austin won a Big Nine Conference girls golf triangular meet on Tuesday at the Faribault Country Club to finish the regular season.

The Austin Packers shot a team score of 378, which was 15 strokes better than the host Faribault Falcons. The Rochester Mayo Spartans were last on the day.

Katelyn Rizzi of Austin was the meet medalist with a round of 88. Catherine Wagner of Austin was the meet runner-up with a 93. Molly McShea had the low round for Faribault and Krista Solie led Mayo.

"We had a much better day around the greens chipping and putting, but struggled a little with our second shots," Austin coach Mark Anderson said. "Katelyn had a good day all around as the medalist."

Rizzi started out with a 46 on the front nine. She then began the back nine with a par on the 10th hole and that set the tone for a four stroke differential. Wagner also shot a 46 on the front nine, but had trouble on the back holes.

Steph Vilt shot a 49 on the front nine for the Packers and then shaved a stroke off her score on the back. Natalie Baudler rounded out the Austin scorecard with a 53-49 split. Baudler started the back nine with a par on the 10th hole.

Austin girls golf plays in the Big Nine Meet on Monday at Mankato.
