AUSTIN EDITION - Austin Kaysea All-Stars receive baseball awards

The Austin Kaysea All-Stars 13-and-under baseball team handed out awards at an end-of-season party.

Brian Voigt was named the team's MVP. He batted .529 on the season, scored 37 runs and stole 28 bases. He also had a 7-2 record with four saves as a pitcher.

Darin Wagner received the Hitting Award as he batted .628 during the summer. Derek Emanuel received the Fielding Award as he had 25 putouts and 167 assists.

Kody Retterath was honored as the top pitcher. He pitched in 24 of Austin's 29 games and had 53 strikeouts.

Other awards included, Most Improved: Sam Stier; Coaches Award: Jake Schmit; Spirit Award: Tim Williams: Ken Griffey Jr. (hard luck) Award: MacEagon Voyce. Participation awards went to Jeremy Srock, Danny Hayes, Keith Weber and Nick Grage.

The team was coached by Mark Voyce and assisted by Larry Voigt, Tim Williams and Scott Retterath.

The Kaysea's finished with a 19-10 record and had two second-place finishes in tournaments, two consolation finishes and qualified for two state tournaments. The team was third in the MSF State Tournament. Austin finished with a .361 team batting average.
