An Austin man died after he lost control of his vehicle and it collided with a tree early this morning.
Darren Douglas Shaw, 25, died from injuries he suffered when he lost control of his sport utility vehicle and it hit a tree in the 1100 block of Fourth Street Southwest.
According to Police Chief Paul Philipp, an officer tried to stop Shaw because a taillight on the SUV was out.
Shaw did not stop, even when the squad car's lights and siren were used. The officer notified his supervisor he was going to stop the pursuit because of the speed involved, estimated to be as high as 60 mph, according to the police report.
Shaw was alone in the vehicle.
