NORTHFIELD -- The Austin VFW team beat Northfield 5-4 Wednesday night in first-round playoff action.
Conor Johnson pitched a complete game to improve to 6-1 on the season.
With the score tied 4-4 in the seventh inning, Chris Tobar led off with a double down the right-field line. Matt Vietor bunted him over to third base and Alex Kaiser singled to plate Tobar with the eventual winning run.
Tim Kirby and Mike Astrup led off Austin's three-run fourth inning with singles. Marcus Ball followed with a two-run triple to right. Josh Nack followed with an RBI single.
Austin (14-10) will continue division playoff action against Rochester John Marshall at 11 a.m. Saturday in Red Wing.
