AUSTIN EDITION -- Blossoms shoot down Rebels

ADAMS -- Tenacious defense by Blooming Prairie limited the scoring opportunities for the Southland Rebels in a 57-47 loss on Tuesday night in non-conference boys basketball.

The Blossoms got off to a good start as the defense held the Rebels to only four points in the first quarter. The offense then got a little better for the home team as they cut the visitor's lead to six points at halftime.

"We had more patience offensively in the second quarter and some shots started to drop," Southland coach Greg Storey said. "Blooming played good defense, and it didn't help matters when we lost two of our top scorers in the first half. Adam Nagele and Jeff Thalberg both went down with sprained ankles."

Blooming Prairie (8-5) rode the hot shooting of Eric Habberstad in the second half. The Blossoms connected on six of nine three-pointers in the second half.

Habberstad had a career-high five three-pointers as he led the Blossoms to the road win. Habberstad had a game-high 21 points, and Luke Miller was also in double figures for the Blossoms. Dan Bakker led the Rebels with 17 points on the night.

"Our defensive help was slow on the zone, and we kept leaving Habberstad open," Storey said. "They got a lot of good looks from beyond the arc and they made most of them."

Southland boys (4-7) return to Southeast Conference, West Division action at home on Thursday night vs. LeRoy-Ostrander.
