AUSTIN EDITION Charges considered against suspects in alleged hazing

The Olmsted County Attorney's Office will be asked to consider filing charges against 11 suspects allegedly involved in the hazing of 16 high school students.

According to Rochester Police Capt. Jim Pittenger, police supervisors are expected to finish their review of investigative reports that will be sent to the county attorney's office.

Police are requesting 32 charges be filed against the suspects, Pittenger said. The charges range from misdemeanors to felonies and may include disorderly conduct, fifth-degree assault and false imprisonment, he said.

The investigation into the hazing incidents began earlier this month. The incidents allegedly involved underclassmen at Century High School being "paddled" with two-by-four planks. At least one student sought medical treatment.

The Rochester School Board expelled three students Tuesday in connection with the incidents.
