Austin High School's Key Club raised nearly $579 on Halloween Night to donate to UNICEF for providing Vitamin A capsules to prevent blindness, according to member Keisha Radloff.

Club members went trick-or-treating Oct. 31 to collect the monetary donations.

The club also raised about $306 through a bake sale Oct. 24 at Kmart in Austin. Key Club members are thanking Kmart, which donated $100, Grinder's Deli and Brady Mallory and Sarah Bridgeman for putting the event together.

Historical Society

The annual meeting of the Mower County Historical Society will be Nov. 20 at the organization's administration building.


The meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the building located in the Mower County Fairgrounds.

Five candidates will be elected at the meeting to positions in the society for 2005.

A documentary film, "Reflections on the Cedar," also will be shown. It is a personal story told by Dick Kelly on the early history of the Chicago, St. Paul, Pacific and Milwaukee railroads and Hormel Foods Corp.

Refreshments will be served. The public is welcomed to attend.

Duplicate Bridge

Wini Morgan and Phyllis Helgeson tied for first place with Bud Higgins and Loren Cleland in duplicate bridge play Wednesday in Austin.

Marilyn Gesme and Dee Bloomingdale placed third. Sandy Roisen and Robert Gromatka took fourth. Harley Miller and Richard Paul received fifth.

Duplicate bridge is played at 1 p.m. Wednesdays at the Twin Towers in downtown Austin. Anyone is welcome.

Eagles Auxiliary

During the Eagles meeting, the ritual team, which include Arlene Pike, Florence Carroll, Gloria Njos, Carol Corner and Hazel Julson, initiated new member Angela Williams.

Val Maloney and Nancy Redding received membership pins. Chairwoman Gloria Njos reported on the Fifth District meeting in Farmington. The November meeting will be in Waseca. The sunshine report was given by Ann Clayton and the audit report by Arlene Pike. Lunch was served by DeLores Novak and her committee.

The next meeting will be Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. with an officers' meeting at 7:15 p.m.
