AUSTIN EDITION - Coleman talks trade at Mower fair

From staff reports

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Norm Coleman made an appearance at the Mower County Fair on Wednesday night.

In between handshakes and pictures, Coleman spoke to constituents about his platform and how he hopes to affect Mower County residents as a senator.

One issue Coleman addressed was trade in Minnesota.

"You cannot be a senator in Minnesota and be opposed to trade," he said. "You have to open up trade opportunities for growers and producers in Minnesota."

Coleman also spoke about the future of alternative forms of energy in the state. In particular, he expressed concern about converting to wind power.

Rapid, large-scale conversion to wind power, he said, could hurt smaller communities that lack the resources to make such a change.

"Talk to the people in Albert Lea and ask them what it will do to them," he said.
