The Austin School Board approved seven teaching contracts Monday night, almost all for Austin High School.

The following received contracts to work at Austin High School: Rachael Cota, environmental science teacher; Steven Hall, Area Learning Center teacher; Wendy Hall, English as a Second Language teacher; Todd Mikkelsen, ninth-grade physical science teacher; Angela Roessner, language arts teacher; and Amber Van Hale, language arts/speech teacher.

Katie Dahnert also got a contract to teach fourth grade at Southgate Elementary School.

All of the contracts begin Aug. 24.


Board members also accepted four resignations: Todd Waterbury, an Ellis Middle School science teacher already on leave of absence, for other employment; Debra Holt, an elementary teacher on leave of absence, for personal reasons; Judy Deines, an Austin High counselor, for retirement; and Sandra Olson, a social worker for Austin High and Sumner Elementary School, for retirement.

The board also approved requests for leave from Jessica Carlson, a special education teacher at Banfield Elementary School, for child care, and Sandy Schile, an elementary teacher on leave of absence, for child care. Carlson's leave will run from Sept. 1 to Oct. 24, and Schile's will be from Aug. 24 to May 31, 2006.

Jacob Mangelsen, the controller for the district's finance office, has requested to resign May 27 for personal reasons.

Amber Yost, a fourth-grade teacher at Southgate, received approval for a request for a leave of absence for child care effective May 26.
