AUSTIN EDITION -- Falcons sink Austin with comeback

FARIBAULT -- Faribault rallied to beat Austin 6-5 in Big Nine Conference baseball on Tuesday.

The Packers held leads of 3-0 and 5-3 but the Falcons used four unearned runs to record the win.

"You have to make plays to win and we just didn't make enough," Austin coach Kris Fadness said. The Packers finished with three errors and all three were in the two innings in which Faribault scored.

The Falcons scored three times in both the third fifth innings. Jason Deike hit a two-run double for Faribault to tie the game 5-5 in the fifth inning. Justin Dunke followed with a single to score the winning run.

The Packers got off to a fast start with three runs in the top of the first. Kyle Rizzi started the game with a strikeout, but reached on a passed ball. After Nick Bowe single, Matt Johnson hit an RBI single. One out later Billy Anderson and Jim Knoebel hit run-scoring singles.


The Packers had four of their eight hits in the opening inning.

"After the first inning our bats were pretty quiet," Fadness said.

The Packers padded the lead to 4-0 in the second. Brandon Schaefer singled, stole second and took third on a single by Ben Dolphin. Two outs later Johnson hit an RBI double.

The Falcons pulled within 4-3 with a three-run third. The Packers had two errors in the inning and Ross Peroutka had an RBI double.

Anderson increased the lead to 5-3 with a solo homer to left with two outs in the fifth. The Falcons then rallied to win with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

"It just came down to fielding," Fadness said. "Kyle Rizzi pitched pretty well, but we just didn't get enough support behind him."

Anderson and Johnson were both 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored for the Packers

Austin (2-6, 2-4 Big Nine) will be in Rochester on Thursday to take on Mayo at 5 p.m.
