AUSTIN EDITION - Grand Meadow drops third straight

GRAND MEADOW -- Spring Grove took a seven-point halftime lead and made it last despite a high scoring fourth quarter on Friday night.

The visiting Lions and the host Superlarks each put up a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter. But the late rally wasn't enough for the Superlarks as they lost 28-21.

Zac Benson put the Superlarks ahead midway through the second quarter as he caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brady Lorenzen. It was the first of two touchdown pass for Lorenzen on the night.

Patrick Longmire, who led all rushers with 129 yards on 17 carries, brought the Lions back with a 68-yard touchdown run. Longmire would score again late in the first half to give the Lions the lead for good.

It was a 22-7 deficit for the Superlarks in the fourth quarter, when Benson scored on a short touchdown run. Spring Grove answered with the second of two touchdown runs by Andy Folz.

Lorenzen later hit Adam Swanson on a touchdown pass in the waning seconds, but it wasn't enough in this Southern Confederacy, East Division contest.
