Owners of cars impounded by police, might soon have to pay for it.
A motion to charge an administrative fee of $100 plus a $10 daily fee was approved during an Austin City Council work session Tuesday.
According to Austin Police Chief Paul Philipp, the department is dealing with a growing number of cars impounded for alcohol and drug violations.
"These vehicles create significant administrative work to impound, process and eventually sell," Philipp said in a memo.
The $10 daily storage fee will cover insurance costs.
