CANNON FALLS -- Lyle/Austin Pacelli volleyball finished in the runner-up spot at the Cannon Falls Tournament on Saturday.
Lyle/Pacelli won two and tied one match in pool play. Cannon Falls then beat L/P two straight games to claim the tourney championship.
In the first match of the day, the L/P girls beat Plainview 25-19, 25-19. Statistically for L/P in the opener: Nina Hollerud 3 kills, 6 set assists, 2 blocks; Chelsey Roberts 2 set assists, 3 blocks; Lindsay Halbach 7 kills, 4 aces; Karina Golberg ace, block; Kelli Rogers 2 kills.
L/P split the next match with Lake City losing the first game 25-17, and winning the next game 25-18. Golberg had 2 kills, 7 digs, 10 blocks; Laura Christenson 7 digs; Roberts 2 blocks, 4 set assists, Halbach 5 kills; Hollerud 3 kills, 6 set assists, 7 blocks; Rogers 2 kills, block; Anna Bergstrom 2 kills.
Finishing off pool play with wins of 25-14 and 25-6 win over Randolph, the L/P Athletics moved into the championship round. Halbach had 6 kills; Hollerud 7 set assists, 6 digs, 3 blocks; Rogers 9 kills; Golberg 2 blocks.

"I was happy with the way we played over the weekend," L/P co-coach Norm Blaser said. "Our goal was to make it into the championship. We didn't play very well in the first game against Cannon Falls, but it was still a good showing in the tournament."
The Bombers of Cannon Falls lived up to their nickname by blasting L/P in the first game of the title round. The Bombers scored the first 20 points of the game off powerful serving.
L/P lost the first game 25-5, and then dropped the second game of the title match 25-22. Statistics included: Roberts 4 set assists; Rogers 2 kills, 3 digs; Halbach 2 kills, 2 ace serves, 2 digs; Hollerud 2 kills; Krista Balgeman 1 kill.
"We couldn't handle this one girl's serve in the first game of the championship round and it was ugly," L/P co-coach Carl Ellis said. "We came back and made a respectable showing in the second game. It was a good tournament for us and now we're ready to finish the regular season with a couple of wins."
L/P (16-11) plays a makeup match at Glenville-Emmons tonight in Southeast Conference action and then finishes the regular season on Tuesday at the Pacelli Gym in Austin against the Houston Hurricanes.
