AUSTIN EDITION - L/P girls, boys teams compete in area meets

The Lyle/Austin Pacelli boys and girls track teams competed in the Lake City Invitational on Monday and then went to the Kasson-Mantorville Invite on Tuesday.

In the Lake City meet, the L/P girls finished sixth with one point scored by Anna Bergstrom in the 100-meter dash at a time of 14.32 seconds. Bergstrom also finished fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 30.89.

The girls 400 relay team of Livja Burke, Merissa Schwartz, Sophia Hutchinson, and Bergstrom finished seventh with a time of 1:02.53.

The boys team finished sixth with 39 points at Lake City.

There were a couple of high finishes in the sprint events for the L/P boys.

Kellen Blaser finished first in the 100 with a time of 11.95. Pat Sheehan finished fifth in the 200 with a time of 25.55. Chris Bergstrom placed fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:00.18 and Alex Block finished fourth in the 400 with a time of 1:00.15.

Sheehan also placed second in the triple jump with at 35 feet-8 inches, Bergstrom finished second in the high jump clearing 5-6.

In the distance events, Nick Anderson finished fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:24.64. Josh Gunderson was second in the 1600 with a time of 5:05.83 and he also finished third in the 3200 with a time of 11:14.42.

The 400 relay team finished third with a time of 47.4 seconds. The relay team consisted of Sheehan, Tim Sheedy, Bergstrom, and Blaser.

"Even with the cool weather on Monday, both the boys and girls team improved on their times from the previous meet," L/P coach Ryan Leif said. "This was the first of our four meets this week."

At the Kasson-Mantorville Invite on Tuesday, the L/P girls finished fifth with 12 team points. Anna Bergstrom placed third in the 100 with a time of 14.53 and was fifth in the long jump at 11-7.

Livja Burke placed sixth in the long jump with a 10-9. The girls 400 relay team of Burke, Schwartz, Krista Balgeman, and Bergstrom finished fifth with a time of 1:01.12.

The boys finished fourth at K-M with 44 points. Blaser finished third in the 100 with a time of 11.97.

Gunderson placed fourth in the 1600 with a time of 5:10, but then took the top spot in the 3200 with a time of 11:38. Chris Bergstrom placed second in the high jump clearing 5-6.

The boys 400 relay finished first with a time of 47.94. The relay team consisted of Sheehan, Sheedy, Bergstrom, and Blaser. The 1600 relay team of Block, Sheehan, Bergstrom, and Blaser finished fourth with a time of 3:58.

"Both teams did good considering they had back-to-back meets," Leif said of the K-M Invite.

Lyle/Pacelli track and field travels to Chatfield today for a meet and finishes a busy week on Saturday at Cannon Falls.
