LAKEVILLE -- Austin saw its volleyball season come to an end with a 3-0 loss to Lakeville in the Section 1AAA opener for both teams Wednesday.
Third-seeded Lakeville defeated No. 14 Austin, 25-15, 25-16, 25-13. No Austin statistics from the match were available.
There were no upsets in the opening round of play. Only three Big Nine Conference teams advanced to the quarterfinals. No. 4 Rochester Mayo beat No. 13 Waseca, No. 5 Faribault beat No. 12 Rochester John Marshall and No. 1 Owatonna beat No. 16 Hastings.
The quarterfinals will be held on Friday at the site of the higher seed.
The semifinals and finals, next Wednesday and Saturday, will be held in Rochester.
