AUSTIN EDITION Lyle services honor veterans

The Lutheran churches of Lyle will honor American veterans with a Sunday service.

Guest speaker will be Gregory Helle, a Vietnam War veteran and chaplain of the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Alliance.

The alliance provides peer counseling to sufferers. Helle will preach during worship at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 13.

The special service will be at Our Savior's Lutheran Church on U.S. 218, south in Lyle.

In a prepared statement, Helle said he is concerned that too often the phrase "support our troops" only means support while the troops are away at war. "But once they return home, we leave them to fend for themselves in adjusting to civilian life," he said.

The day will include a potluck dinner. The public is invited. For more information, call the church at 325-4684.
