AUSTIN EDITION Man arrested for allegedly hitting officer

A 39-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer during an altercation Saturday.

Austin Police Chief Paul Philipp said officers were called to a home for a domestic argument at 11:40 p.m. Saturday.

Officers Mark Walski and Pat Retterath were attempting to separate the couple when, Philipp said, the suspect punched Walski in the face with an unopened can of pop, causing bruises and cuts around Walski's left eye.

Philipp said the two officers were able to take the man to the ground, where he was handcuffed. The suspect is in custody at the Mower County Jail and could face second-degree assault charges in the case.
