Thieves went through counters and cabinets and pried the door off a safe at the Mower County Fairgrounds in Austin early Sunday, but police are unclear what was stolen.
According to Police Chief Paul Philipp, the robbery happened about 12:30 a.m. Sunday in a new fairgrounds building and the groundskeeper's office. The intruders also went through the auditorium. Lights and tiles were broken and removed. "I guess it was quite a mess," Philipp said.
Access to the building was gained by prying a door of the building open. Fairgrounds officials will compile a list of damages and missing property.
