ROCHESTER -- Austin was coming off an emotional win over a Big Nine rival, but was unable to recover from a slow start against Rochester Lourdes in boys hockey.
Lourdes scored the first four goals in the first period and skated to an easy 8-4 win over Austin in a non-conference game Thursday night at Graham Arena.
"I was impressed with Austin's work ethic," said Lourdes coach Bob Haskins. "They were down 4-0, and continued to fight to the end."
The Packers (1-1) had opened with a 10-5 win over Big Nine Conference rival Rochester Mayo at home on Tuesday. But on Thursday, the Packers could get no closer than 6-3 after outscoring defending Section 1A champion Lourdes in the second period.
The Eagles, now 5-0, had a 2-1 scoring edge in the third period.

Lourdes forward Brandon Harrington scored three goals and forward Nick Forliti had four assists. Eagles goalkeeper Ben Alker made 29 saves.
"Alker continues to make big saves in key situations," Haskins said.
The high-scoring Eagles have 27 goals in their last three games.
Austin will play host to Owatonna next Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Riverside Arena.
