AUSTIN EDITION - Packers roll past Mankato East

MANKATO -- Austin swept the four singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over Mankato East in Big Nine Conference girls tennis on Thursday.

Five of the six wins by the Packers came in straight sets.

"We played pretty good today," Austin coach Dave Handeland said. "We had to wait around, because as soon as we got there it began to rain. We finally got started and it was pretty humid but the girls fought through it and got a (good) result."

Amy Kelly, Caitlin Jurgensen and Angie Flaherty all had straight-set wins for the Packers in singles play. Katie Erickson, at No. 2 singles, held off Whitney Olson 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.

Austin's wins in doubles came at the No. 2 and 3 positions. Lisa Bue and Stephanie Bowe lost just two games in two sets while Margaret Wagner and Betsy Hingeveld dropped just three.

The Packers (5-2, 2-1 Big Nine) will play host to Albert Lea on Saturday at 10 a.m.
