AUSTIN EDITION - Rebels lose in 3 to Kingsland

ADAMS -- The Kingsland Knights swept the Southland Rebels in Three Rivers Conference volleyball on Tuesday night.

Kingsland (12-2 overall) won by scores of 25-13, 25-20, and 25-20. Statistics for Kingsland included: Paisley Larson 27 set assists, 13 digs; Kala Jensen 11 kills, 4 blocks, 2 ace serves; Jenna Tammel 15 kills.

"We got off to a slow start, but the second and third games were close," Southland coach Darica Schneider said. "They were tough at the net."

Southland statistics included: Heather Wilson 19 set assists; Ashton May 13 kills; Shawna Bergene 3 aces; the Rebels were 46-for-47 at the service line.

Kingsland knocked off perennial power Stewartville on Sept. 27.

Southland (8-10, 3-5) plays at Chatfield on Thursday night.

Mayo stays strong:Fresh off its win at the Century Fall Classic tournament last weekend, the Rochester Mayo volleyball team stayed strong Tuesday night in a non-conference win at Farmington.

Mayo won in three games, 25-22, 25-17, 25-19. The Spartans improved to 15-3 overall.

"It was a strange night, including about a 15-minute delay to sort out a scoring error, but the kids responded well to a lot of different things going on," said Mayo coach Rob Scripture.

"We're pretty comfortable now," he added. "We're playing well for a certain amount of time each game; now we just have to stretch it over an entire match."

Mayo's leaders were Leah Bjerke with 17 kills, Christy Looker with seven kills, Sarah Gartner with five kills, and Lisa Mervosh with three ace serves.

Mayo returns to Big Nine Conference action Thursday at Austin.

Owatonna tough on Century: Owatonna showed why its a contender for the Big Nine Conference title with an impressive 3-0 win at Rochester Century. The Huskies won 25-9, 25-18, 25-21.

"They do use all of the hitting positions at the net and they're a very strong serving team," said Century coach Bob Koerner. "You have to be on top of your game defensively, and we got better with that as the match went on."

Lourdes falls at Hayfield: Rochester Lourdes won the first game but couldn't maintain that momentum at Hayfield. The Vikings won the match, 22-25, 27-25, 25-19, 25-12.

Lourdes got a strong game from Jenny Wulff with 14 kills, 22 digs and two blocks. Also for the Eagles, Emilie Deschamps had seven kills and two blocks; Amy Wulff had 32 set assists; Mikayla Marpe had seven kills; and Ashley Ahmann had five kills, 13 digs and two ace serves.

Lourdes is 8-10 overall, 2-5 in the HVL.

Hayfield's Aylssa Nelson set a school record with 13 ace blocks in a single match. She also had 11 kills. Hayfield improved to 12-6, 4-3 in the HVL.
