AUSTIN EDITION - Rockets halt Packers' winning streak

Austin had its four-game winning streak snapped with a 5-1 home setback to Rochester John Marshall on Saturday in girls soccer.

The visiting Rockets took a 2-0 lead in the first half to gain the early momentum.

"The first two goals came on marking errors," Austin coach Mark Raymond said.

John Marshall scored on a rebound each time against Packers goalie Kelly Momsen.

Natalie Morem scored on a breakaway for the Packers to cut the gap to 2-1 at the half.

"She just created that herself," Raymond said of Morem's goal.

The goal didn't give the Packers the momentum in the second half, however. The Rockets scored three straight times to win easily.

"They just had better opportunities then we did," Raymond said.

The Packers did have chances in the second half, but couldn't convert.

"Whitney Murray two good looks at the net that just didn't got in," Raymond said. "We created good opportunities, but couldn't finish on them."

The Packers (5-7, 3-5 Big Nine) have a pair of road games early this week. They are at Mankato West today and at Kasson-Mantorville on Tuesday.
