Because of the recent government shutdown, Mower County will not issue permits to purchase or carry a gun, said Sheriff Terese Amazi.
"We are not taking any applications at this time," Amazi said.
The facility the county obtains background records from has been closed, but it will open as soon as the government shutdown concludes.
A permit to carry a gun costs $100, while a permit to purchase a gun is free.
