Mr. Wakefield
AUSTIN -- The funeral for Sidney E. Wakefield will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Fellowship United Methodist Church in Austin, with the Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.
Mr. Wakefield, 91, of Austin, died Monday (Feb. 20, 2006) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
He was born Sept. 16, 1914, in Pleasant Valley Township, near Dexter. He married Jean L. Harris on Sept. 1, 1940, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They lived in Austin, and he worked at Hormel Foods Corp. for more than 42 years. He volunteered many hours at Fellowship United Methodist Church, where he was a charter member, was active at the Senior Citizen Center and was a past board member. He enjoyed fishing, taking care of his flowers and yard, feeding birds and co-organizing the Wakefield cousins' reunion.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Susan (John) Ryner of Rudd, Iowa; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Hart of Fullerton, Calif., and Ruth (Jon) Goldsberry of San Diego; and a brother, Gerald (Pat) of Dewey, Ariz. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and an hour before the service Friday at the church.
Memorials are preferred to a charity of the donor's choice.
