EYOTA -- The Southland Rebels were swept by the Dover-Eyota Eagles in a Three Rivers Conference volleyball match on Thursday night.
Despite the loss in three games, the Rebels were close to victory in the first and last games. It took overtime for the Eagles to pull out a 26-24 win over the Rebels in the first game of the night.
The Eagles pulled away late to win the second game 25-15, but the third game was another tight affair. The Rebels stayed close, but lost at the end by a 25-22 score and remained winless on the season in conference play.
Teresa Meiners had a big night for Dover-Eyota with 15 kills. Meiners was also 16-for-17 serving with six aces, and added 35 set assists. Also for D-E, Alicia Kalmes chipped in with 14 kills, Malory Eichman had 11 kills and was 13-for-13 serving with four ace serves.
For Southland in the statistical tally: Allison Chapek had five kills and seven kill assists, Shannon Halbach had four ace digs, Gina Lonergan had four ace serves.
