AUSTIN EDITION -- Southland, Spring Grove split makeup doubleheader

SPRING GROVE -- The Southland High School baseball team split a Southeast Conference, non-divisional doubleheader on Tuesday with Spring Grove.

The Rebels won the opener in convincing fashion at 15-6. But Spring Grove came back to gain the split with a 12-1 win in the late affair.

Steve Snyder had four hits for Southland and Derek Berndt had three in the first game. Nate Christiansen and Greg Wiemerslage each had two hits for Spring Grove in the opener.

The Lions' Sam Morken went the distance on the mound in the second game, which was won in five innings by Spring Grove. He threw a six-hitter. Wiemerslage, Christiansen and Pat Longmire each had two hits for the Lions.
