AUSTIN EDITION Towns consider merging

ROCKVILLE, Minn. -- Voters in Rockville, Rockville Township and Pleasant Lake will decide on Monday whether the communities should become one city.

Leaders in the communities, about 10 miles southwest of St. Cloud, are pushing for the change to save money. In addition, Rockville Township Supervisor Roger Schmidt said the move would help the township hold on to its identity if surrounding cities may begin to snatch up prime land. The combined community would have around 2,500 residents.

If a majority of residents in any one of the communities reject the plan, the deal is off.
