MINNEAPOLIS -- A man and woman died when a car fleeing police swerved into their sport-utility vehicle on Highway 100 in Robbinsdale, authorities said.
Police said the incident began about 8 p.m. Thursday when police tried to stop a car being driven erratically in north Minneapolis.
According to police spokesman Ron Reier, officers first tried to stop the car at 33rd and Penn Aves. North, but the driver sped away. The chase picked up again minutes later on a county road where the car was seen heading northwest at a high rate of speed, he said.
The car hit the SUV in the right lane, and witnesses said both vehicles ran onto the shoulder of the road and that the SUV rolled. The identities of the man and woman who were killed were not immediately released.
The driver of the car was hospitalized.
