DES MOINES, Iowa -- Austin native Mike Wuertz recorded his first save for the Iowa Cubs in Tuesday night's 5-3 win over the Omaha Royals at Sec Taylor Stadium.
Wuertz came on in relief of Cubs starter Todd Wellemeyer in the eighth inning. Wuertz pitched the final two innings of the Class AAA game for the save as Wellemeyer got the win.
In his two innings of relief work, Wuertz gave up one run on two hits and struck out a pair of Omaha batters.
