Austin in middleof pack at invite

NORTHFIELD — The Austin High boys golf team finished in the middle of the pack on Thursday at the Northfield Invitational.

Mankato West had a 312 score and won the eight-team event at the Northfield Golf Club. Austin shot a 336 for the team total and placed fourth in the meet.

James Thorson led the Packers with a low round of 80 on the day. Thorson finished eighth overall in the individual standings. Eric Beumer of Northfield was the meet medalist with a round of 74.

"I expected to finish in the middle against a very tough field," Austin coach Will Pazurek said. "Each of our guys have now played this course a couple of times, but the conditions were tough. The wind made it really tough and the scores were pretty high. Still, I’m proud the guys they stuck with it and they didn‘t get frustrated after some three putts. They endured on a day when it was windy and the greens were really fast."

Austin plays in the Eden Prairie Invitational on Monday at Olympic Hills.
