AUSTIN — An Austin man has been sentenced to nearly 14 years in prison for killing a 3-month-old baby.
Jesse Edwards earlier pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in the death of Carlito Ortiz.
Edwards was giving the infant a bath at an Austin apartment complex on Oct. 11 when he said the baby stopped breathing.
The infant was airlifted to Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, where he died two weeks later.

An autopsy showed the child suffered injuries consistent with "shaken baby syndrome."
Edwards also was ordered to make restitution of almost $1,000 to Carlito’s family, including paying the cost of the child’s funeral.
