Officers started receiving reports of the property damage about 4 a.m. today, including for numerous vehicles along the 800 to 1100 blocks of Fourth Avenue Northwest, Lt. John Mueller said.

Authorities estimated getting 12 to 14 similar reports as of 9 a.m. today.

Vehicle windows were shattered, and some had dents and chipped paint on their exterior from pellets or BBs, he said.

One person gave police a vehicle description of a possible suspect after waking up to a sound of something like sand hitting metal, said Mueller.

Ruskell Hardware at Oak Park Mall and Jerry's Other Place on North Main Street also had damaged windows from a pellet gun.
