Austin radio gets a new voice

Ryan Thompson is the new sportscaster at KAUS-AM radio in Austin.

Thompson, 22, is in his first full week on the job. He started at the end of last week and did the broadcast of the second Austin High football game.

"I'm anxious to get into full swing," Thompson said.

Gabby Weiss helped Thompson in the both a week ago. Don Fox will resume color analysis of Packers football games with Thompson this Friday when the 2-0 Packers play at Faribault.

Thompson is a native of New Richmond, Wis., located in the western part of the state. He worked in Nebraska before taking the job at KAUS.

"It's going to be fun being in a bigger market," Thompson said. "And I heard the sports (teams) are competitive here."

Thompson is a 2002 graduate of Brown College, a broadcasting school located in the Twin Cities.

Along with doing play-by-play of games, Thompson will also do a Saturday sports show from 9-10 a.m. He is replacing Aaron Worm, who took a job in Mankato doing Minnesota State college sports.
