Austin rides Wagner’s big night

Nate Wagner went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs Wednesday night to lift the Austin VFW Post 1216 baseball team to a 10-9 nine-inning win over Northfield.

Austin won the first game 9-1.

In the nightcap, Post 1216 got the winning run when Joe Swatsager hit a sharp single to score Jacob Holst. Holst had walked and moved to third on a bunt single by Andrew Orcutt.

Adam Hemann, Orcutt and Swatsager each had two hits.

John Kirby and Dylan Monson each had two RBIs in Game 1 for Austin.

Austin is 10-6 overall and plays in the 20-team Stars of Tomorrow tournament in La Crosse at 11 a.m. today.
