Babes in Toyland co-founder Barbero charged with DUI

MINNEAPOLIS — A drummer for the 1990s rock band Babes in Toyland has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

Lori Barbero was charged after crashing her car through her garage and into her house early Monday. The 47-year-old was booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center shortly before 3 a.m. and released a few hours later.

Police say her blood-alcohol level was 0.20 percent -- more than twice the legal driving limit.

Barbero formed Babes in Toyland along with Kat Bjelland in the late 1980s. The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll says the band was "one of the first all-female bands to come out of the early-’90s grunge scene."
