Banana split comes up short

Associated Press

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. -- A group trying to raise money to buy a summer youth camp came up short in their attempt to make the world's longest banana split.

Sheila Faber said the group got off to a good start at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Saturday, but rain brought an end to their record attempt.

The current record for the longest banana split, set in 1988 in Pennsylvania, is 41⁄2; miles. Faber said one goal was accomplished -- bringing attention to the Smokey Timbers Girl Scout Camp on Lake Miltona.
