ZUMBROTA — The Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara M. Scharpen will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Zumbrota, with the Rev. Timothy Dolan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Scharpen, 64, died Monday (April 14, 2008) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Barbara Marie Heintz was born May 12, 1943, in Barron, Wis. She attended Sacred Hearts School in Almena, Wis., and graduated from Barron High School. She worked for Remington Rand Univac in St. Paul as a keypunch operator, and on July 23, 1966, married Lyle Scharpen in Almena. The couple made their home in Rochester, where Mrs. Scharpen worked for Whiting Printing Co. They later moved to Zumbrota and she worked for Zumco and Zumtop. She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, as well as the TOPS Club, and enjoyed bird watching, traveling, trips to the casino, and her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, David (Patti) of Wabasha and Kenneth (fiancee Teryl Wouters) of Rochester; two grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Heintz of St. Paul and Marjorie (Michael) Westling of Eagan, Minn.; and a brother, Kenneth Heintz of New Richmond, Wis. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Colin Scharpen.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, with a Prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
