STEWARTVILLE — The funeral for Basil Bernard, 96, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Chatfield, with the Rev. Justin Halbersma officiating. Burial will be in Chatfield Cemetery.
Mr. Bernard, of rural Stewartville, died Tuesday (March 17, 2009) at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, where he had resided since August 2007.
Born Aug. 1, 1912, in Pleasant Grove Township, Olmsted County, he lived his entire life in the rural Stewartville area. He attended Bernard School District 138. He was a farmer, a dealer for Bernard Sales and Services, and a rural letter carrier. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Masonic Lodge 22 for 50 years and enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and traveling.
Mr. Bernard is survived by a brother, Nado (Eva) of Stewartville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Granado and Isabel (Turner) Bernard; five brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield, and an hour before the service Friday at the church.
