RED WING — The funeral service for Beverle Joy Ekblad will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Vasa Lutheran Church near Red Wing, with the Rev. Michael Dobbins officiating. Burial will be in Vasa Lutheran Cemetery.
Mrs. Ekblad, 93, of Red Wing, died Monday (April 7, 2008) at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center.
Beverle Joy Evans was born July 10, 1914, in Minneapolis. As a young girl, her family lived in Chisholm and Hibbing, both in Minnesota. They moved to Lake City in 1926. She graduated from Lake City High School in 1931 and took a Normal Training course. She taught at the Boston School in rural Wabasha County for three years and later graduated from Paul’s Beauty School in Minneapolis. On Jan. 2, 1937, she married Myron F. Ekblad. She did several years of beauty work, and they farmed in the Red Wing area. In 1957, she returned to teaching. She taught at the Vasa School for 14 years and the Burnside School for seven years. She graduated from Winona State College in 1973. She retired from teaching in 1978. The couple wintered in Texas and Arizona.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Wilburn) Powers of St. Cloud, Minn., and Geraldine Raasch of Shoreview, Minn.; a son, Thomas (Peggy) of Red Wing; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Earl Evans of Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 9, 1992, and a brother.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing.
