Last week: Lourdes played at home and was defeated by Triton, 10-6. The Eagles drove the ball 76 yards on its last possession down to the Cobras 10 but came up short. Pine Island lost its opener at Kasson-Mantorville, 31-0. The Panthers had 143 yards on the ground but only 17 in the air.
Last meeting: Lourdes came up big, winning 28-8. Ted Garry ran back the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown and also scored on a 36-yard run. The Eagles were outgained, however, 286-216 yards. Pine Island had 239 of those yards on the ground. Pine Island holds a 7-3 advantage, with Lourdes winning the last three.
Noteworthy: The Eagles have to replace to replace lineman Joe Briese and linebacker/running back Tony Lawler, out for the season with injuries. Lawler tore his ACL against Triton… Junior; quarterback Andrew Johnson had a sparkling debut, completing 7-of-18 for 255 yards and a 94-yard touchdown to Cory Wegner.…; The Panthers had only 17 yards passing against Kasson-Mantorville. Shane Strong is in his second year as Pine Island coach. The Panthers were 4-5 last year. Tyler Robertson led them with 773 yards rushing and seven touchdowns.
